Meet Wendy

Behind every story is a little bit of the person who wrote it.

Wendy L. Russell is an author of children’s, middle grade, and young adult fiction, believing the best stories can make us laugh, feel seen, and look at the world a little differently.

After spending many years in the corporate world, Wendy retired early and discovered an unexpected next chapter: writing. Once she had the time and space to slow down, ideas began arriving. They were characters, moments, and stories she felt compelled to put on the page.

Born and raised in West Virginia, Wendy finds inspiration in the people and experiences closest to her. She and her husband are raising their son, who has brought countless moments of discovery, curiosity, and joy into their lives. These experiences have given her a deeper appreciation for the small moments that can shape a child’s world. Whether reading to her son’s class or sitting from front at his Little League games, Wendy loves being part of the moments that spark curiosity, laughter, and imagination. Years of traveling around the world have also shaped her perspective, giving her a lasting appreciation for different places, cultures, and the stories found in everyday life.

Wendy has always been drawn to water. Whether it’s the ocean, a lake, or simply the sound and movement of water, she finds something peaceful in being near it. She never set out to make water a recurring element in her writing, but she has found that it sometimes finds its way into stories she tells.

Today, she writes stories for children, middle grade readers, and young adults, exploring imagination, connection, courage, and wonder found in both ordinary and extraordinary moments.
